First off, I owe a huge thank you to my fantastic neighbor who sent me a text message to see if I’d be interested in attending a Lavender Wreath Making class at Red Ridge Farms! Our neighbors rock!
Second, I learned so much about lavender at this event!
My friend Julie came to visit me in early August, she was in town caddying for one of her good friends who was playing in the US Women’s Amateur…more on that in an upcoming blog post…
When Julie is in town, we always make time for wine tasting! And this time, one of our destinations was Rex Hill Vineyards. I drive by Rex Hill every single day on my way to and from work, and am slightly embarrassed that it took me almost two years to finally do a wine tasting!? But then again, we have a lot of wineries in the Willamette Valley…
When you keep honeybees, one of the really amazing by-products to honey is bees wax! Over the last two years we’ve cut out all sorts of “rouge comb” in order to keep the hives nice and clean. We’ve been mindful to collect all of the extra comb and have been storing it in this five gallon bucket!
It’s hard to believe that two years ago today we were nervously getting ready to walk down the isle…what a wonderful day! Two years later we’re celebrating our anniversary, and exchanging gifts…
The Renaissance Man and I love to walk around Dundee. We live in such a beautiful place and there is always so much to see! A while back (May 2014, oops!) I promised that I would post updates about the progress of the Newberg-Dundee Bypass…well, tons has happened and I haven’t done a great job of “reporting.”
We’ve had fun this summer trying to incorporate as much produce from our garden into every single meal! We’ve been using all sorts of green and red peppers in all sorts of dishes. However, my favorite to date is the breakfast scrambles. In typical Southern fashion all great meals start out with the holy trinity…bell peppers, onions, and garlic (minus the celery)!
Everything goes into the pan with a little olive oil and butter to sauté.
As I mentioned in by previous post…I took the summer off blogging, but I still managed to take lots of pictures! I’ve decided to try and incorporate some “flashback” events into my weekly blog post so that you too can enjoy the Dundee summer!
And it wouldn’t be summer without the Fueled by Fine Wine Half Marathon!
My love of Honeycrisp Apples started when I moved to Austin, Texas. I remember one of my first trips to the grocery after arriving on campus for graduate school, “The HEB” had the biggest display of apples I had ever seen! It was also probably the biggest grocery store I had ever been to…everything is bigger in Texas right? The Honeycrisp Apples happened to be on sale that week, so I filled up my bag and hoped for the best.
And I have to say…THEY WERE THE BEST APPLES I’VE EVER HAD!
So if you’ve been following along with me here at Weekends in Dundee, you know that I essentially “took the summer off.” Which I loved…but it also makes me kind of sad knowing that I frolicked in the sunshine soaking up all that Dundee has to offer, and didn’t share a darn bit of it with you!? So selfish, but it sure was a beautiful summer in wine country!
