I like to think about the City of Newberg as the City of Dundee’s older sister. The two towns are similar, but oh so different. Since Newberg is a little bigger and a little older, it’s had time to develop some really great traditions. One of those traditions being First Friday ARTwalk!
Despite a very long day, and the fact that the window installers were at our house much longer than expected, we decided to rally and catch a bit of the ARTwalk. We grabbed dinner on 1st Street at Storrs Smokehouse, which is one of my new favorite places! After spending almost six years in the South during college, I’ve certainly have become accustom to good BBQ, and Storrs hits the spot. The Renaissance Man is a huge fan, and can’t seem to get enough of their homemade sweet pickles!
From Storrs we made our way to Cusick Picture Frame to check out artist Christine Joy. Christine’s artwork is beautiful and is worth finding and checking out in person if you can. The vibrancy and life that she creates in each painting is remarkable. I especially loved her ability to capture reflections in water. I wish I had pictures to share, but I was so absorbed in the moment I forgot to pull out my camera. I did however grab her business card, seriously, look her up!
We ended our night at the newly opened Newberg Bakery. It’s been open for over a month now, and I was excited to go inside and check it out. The inside is rustic with a country charm. Exposed wooden beams and an open sight line to the kitchen, makes you feel like you could roll up your sleeves and pitch in to help. Is there anything better than finding a new place that feels like home? I convinced The Renaissance Man to split a macaroon with me, and we savored each gooey bite as we listened to the live music.
The ARTwalk was a great way to cap off a busy week, and the perfect opportunity to take a moment to appreciate each other and the beautiful place we’re making a home.
