Today was a scorcher! I slipped outside at lunch for a quick walk, and before I knew it, I had a bead of sweat went rolling down my forehead. I’m not sure about the “official” high-temperature, but the heat is on, and here’s how I know!
1. Temperature in the Car
That’s right, the trusty Subaru said it was 102°F as I drove through Newberg on my way home. How about that for July 1st!?
2. Cold Drinks on a Tuesday
I was thinking about our meal plan in the car, and the thought of cooking something hot in our house seemed absolutely revolting! I chatted with The Renaissance Man and we decided to meet each other at Red Hills Market for a cold one and some dinner. Three cheers for this amazing Pear Cider from Finnriver!
3. Kids Playing!
Our neighbors have a SWIMMING POOL (totally jealous), and I was half tempted to invite myself over. I could tell the kids were having a blast! Do you remember the game Marco-polo? I could hear echoes of “Marco…polo…Marco…polo…”
4. Bearding Honeybees
When it gets too hot even the honeybees try to find a way to cool down. Noir had tons of bees “bearding” on the front of the hive. The bees basically chill out on the front porch trying to stay cool. We’ve also made sure they have a water source available so they stay hydrated. Good thing the hives remain in the shade most of the afternoon!
5. Everything SLOWS DOWN………..
When it’s super hot I start to feel like molasses; it reminds me of being back in the South where everything just moves at a slower pace. On my evening walk, even the vineyards seemed hot and tired after a long day of growing. Or then again, maybe it was just me, tired from walking up a really big hill in the evening sun. The heat is on, and I’m looking forward to a fantastic 4th of July weekend!
