I don’t think you can really beat waking up to the smell of bacon. Now I’m not a huge bacon fan, but that smell just makes you want to roll out of bed and head into the kitchen to see what’s cooking. So on a Tuesday morning, as I was struggling to reach out of bed and turn off my alarm, I realized that bacon was cooking and quickly got excited to see what else was on the menu!
Every once in a while The Renaissance Man transforms an ordinary weekday morning into a special occasion that you end up talking about of the rest of the week. Yes, I know, I’m one lucky gal!
The Renaissance Man loves good food, and can hardly pass up the opportunity to recreate a fantastic meal or to try out some recipe he just saw on The Food Network. My Man can cook!
His mission this fine Tuesday morning was to try and recreate the Wild Wood Toast from Wild Wood Café in downtown McMinnville. The French Toast is made with freshly baked bread and has a granola type crust that is perfectly crispy. Wild Wood Café even keeps the syrup warm, how’s that for attention to detail?
Our version of French Toast used fresh rolls, the typical egg, cinnamon, and a splash of milk mixture, and a cup of fresh granola. The Renaissance Man coated the rolls in the egg mixture and then dipped it into the granola and made sure to get full coverage with the granola.
Our cat Whiskey was also ready for a fancy weekday breakfast! Can you spot her?
The toast then went into the pan to cook until golden brown.
Mmmm, granola.
And before long, the Granola French Toast was ready to share a plate with lovely bacon from Carlton Farms. A dusting of powdered sugar sealed the deal!
Breakfast for two.
A splash of orange juice, tea, and fresh berries rounded out a memorable Tuesday morning. Now if only I didn’t have to go to work! ha!
