As you know, sometimes “Weekends in Dundee” travels and like everyone else, I’m just catching up from the holiday weekend…they sure do fly by fast!?
The Renaissance Man and I headed to the Oregon Coast to escape the heat and to say our final goodbyes to a wonderful beach house that’s been a part of the family for a very long time. On the 4th of July, we joined Rockaway Beach visitors and residents to celebrate America!
US101 was busy and as we approached the parade route, and cars were being diverted off of the highway to by-pass downtown Rockaway.
I loved that all of the businesses had decorated for the holiday! Red, White, and Blue!
The streets were lined with people all through downtown, you could feel the anticipation in the air as kids got ready to collect all the parade candy.
I made sure to track down the guy selling kettle corn, nothing beats eating popcorn and watching a parade!
One of my favorite parts of any 4th of July parade is the Air Force flyover. I wasn’t able to catch the fighter jet with my camera, but believe me, the sound of a fighter jet flying low over the crowd evoked a surge of emotion and I immediately was so thankful and proud to be an American.
Before long, the cars started rolling by…
These folks had the song “Dixieland Delight” blaring from the truck and it reminded me of being back in Nashville!
A little Harry Potter for all of the kids in the crowd…
Who doesn’t love bag pipes?
And muscle cars…
The husky in the tutu put a huge smile on my face, you could tell that dog was having fun!
My hats off to all the veterans who were both in the parade and in the crowds, these fine men and women are true Americans!
Oh, and don’t forget the guy with a crab on his head! ha!
The best part of the Rockaway Beach 4th of July Parade is the finish! The fire truck ends the parade by spraying the crowd with thousands of gallons of water!
Everyone got soaked and I don’t think a single person cared! It was so hot outside that a nice splash of water was just what the crowd needed.
Hip! Hip! Hooray! for family, the Oregon Coast, and the 4th of July!
