I know I’ve said this before, but I really do look forward to Sunday mornings all week long. Something about the slow pace of a Sunday morning rejuvenates my mind and body. The Renaissance Man and I typically drink tea, eat breakfast and then go for a stroll in the park.
However, last Sunday when we woke up, neither one of us felt like making breakfast so instead we set out on our walk with our destination being breakfast at Red Hills Market.
Such a beautiful morning walk. The hot air balloons were floating by…
The hazelnut orchard was soaking up the morning sunshine…
And before we knew it, Red Hills Market was in sight!
I know the little beaten path on the right side of this picture doesn’t seem like much, but you’d be amazed at the number of walkers you pass by on a weekend morning. Even the local cat was up and at it, can you spy her stalking in the grass?
While I love the tradition of Sunday morning breakfast, I’ve never been a huge breakfast person. Something simple and light is more in line with what I want to eat when I wake up. So for breakfast I opted for the honey mustard, ham, and gruyere cheese pastry topped with toasted sesame seeds. I also indulged, and ordered a spicy bloody mary. You’ll notice that instead of the typical pickled vegetables that show up in a bloody mary, Red Hills Market tops their bloody mary with a hearty slice of Carlton Farms bacon.
Because it was such a warm morning we choose to eat breakfast out on the front porch. Here I am enjoying my bloody mary sitting in their awesome “wine barrel” rocking chairs. I’ve been trying to convince The Renaissance Man that we might need a pair of wine barrel rocking chairs of our own! The chairs are made by retired Newberg High School teacher Gary Bertrand, who has been making custom furniture for more than 30 years.
The real star of this Sunday morning were the Biscuits and Gravy!
The Renaissance Man has been waiting for an excuse to try the Biscuits and Gravy, and they certainly did not disappoint. It was quite a dish; fluffy butter biscuits, freshly made sausage gravy with chanterelle mushrooms, and two farm fresh eggs over easy on top! The Renaissance Man was even nice enough to shared a few bites with me.
The walk back to the house was the perfect ending to a wonderful Sunday morning walk in Dundee. Cheers!
