We put in a backyard pond for the honeybees this spring and it’s been a fun project to watch over the summer. I feed the goldfish every day after work and it really is mesmerizing to watch them swim around and come to the surface for food. I’ve also been watching the water lilies.

The thing about water lilies is that they love the sun…and by the time I get home after work the pond is usually in the shade and the water lilies are closed up for the day. However the stars aligned on Monday, and on my extra vacation day to extend the 4th of July weekend I finally got to see a water lily in full bloom!

It was absolutely perfect…soft pink petals and yellow tentacles bursting from the center! Water lilies are beautiful!
