Spring wine shipments are here! It’s one of my favorite times of year seeing which wines were included as part of the shipment and to venture out to the wineries to pick them up. Picking up wine shipments is always a great excuse to go visit wine country! I just love the views from Sokol Blosser, we’re members there, and it’s one of my favorite places to hangout on the weekends.
When we arrived at Sokol Blosser we were greeted at the door with a special pour of the Evolution Sparkling! Bubbly is always so much fun, and Evolution Sparkling is great for mimosas (orange juice with sparking wine).
The great part about being members at a winery is the ability to sneak down into the “Members Only” area and avoid the weekend crowds. Sokol Blosser has both a separate inside area and outside area just for members. You can see the tasting flight for members in the list below.
This Spring, our shipment include six bottles of wine with tasting notes provided by Sokol Blosser, from left to right the wines are…
2013 Dundee Hills Pinot Gris ~ Our pinot gris grapes are whole cluster pressed and given a slow cool stainless steel tank fermentation for two weeks. Shows floral, citrus and white peach aromatics combined with flavors of red ruby grapefruit. Delicious with crab, oysters, halibut or herbed chicken.
2014 Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir ~ 100% pinot noir grapes from our estate’s Concert Block Middle are used to produce this classic dry rose. Flavors of strawberry and cream with ripe fruit in the palate. A heavy yet smooth mouth-feel. Crisp, vibrant and refreshing. Try it with ahi tuna salad or seasonal fruit.
2013 Willamette Valley Chardonnay ~ 45% barrel-aged in French oak and 55% aged in stainless steel, or chardonnay is complex, rich, round and creamy. It exhibits notes of tropical fruit, pineapple, rhubarb, and ripe apple. Try our Chardonnay with a smoked trout salad.
2012 Dundee Hills Pinot Noir ~ Winemaker Alex Sokol Blosser describes the 2012 vintage as “This was a great vintage. Period. I will never see another vintage like this in my lifetime.” Expressive and bright with dark fruit flavors of cherry and blueberry carried throughout. Earthy and spicy, reflective of our Jory soil. Try this with Pan-seared pork lin. 91 points, Wine Spectator. 92 pints, Wine Enthusiast.
2011 Estate Cuvée Pinot Noir ~ Perfumed with notes of black cherry, bright red fruits of ripe raspberry, baking spice and tarragon. This wine shows great depth of pure fruit flavor and its bright nose pints to long-term age-ability. Pairs well with wild salmon or pork chop. A collector’s wine, cellar this for many years. 91 points, Wine Enthusiast.
2013 Evolution Sangiovese ~ A big wine with bright red and black fruit flavors. Evolution Sangiovese is a first in our Evolution family of wines, in an extension called Evolution in Progress. In this program, you can give our winemaking team direct feedback on this wine by submitting your thoughts at evoinprogress.com.
The hardest part…deciding which one to open first! Cheers!
